Privacy Policy

What we collect when you use this site, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Effective October 31, 2026Last updated October 31, 2026

The short version. You can use this site without an account and without telling us who you are. We show ads through Google AdSense and measure traffic with Google Analytics, and those services use cookies. We only get your name or email address if you contact us, report an issue or ask about a featured listing, and we never sell it. This site does not ask for, and does not want, personal health information about you or a family member.

Who we are

NursingHomesInEachState.com (“the site,” “we,” “us”) is a free directory of U.S. nursing homes built from public federal data published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This policy covers NursingHomesInEachState.com only. Other websites we link to, including nursing home websites, have their own policies.

Information you give us

  • Contact form. Your name, your email address (so we can reply), the message you write and the page you came from.
  • Report an issue. The nursing home the report is about, the message you write, the page you came from, and your name and email address if you choose to give them. We use this to check the report against the source data and, if you left an email address, to reply.
  • Featured listing requests. If you work for a nursing home and ask about a featured listing, we collect the home’s name and location, your name, role, work email address and phone number, the option you’re interested in, how many homes you manage and any message. We use this to reply, to check the home’s eligibility against current CMS data and to set up and bill a listing you agree to.

Messages and requests are stored in our database and forwarded to our inbox by email so we can respond.

Please don’t send us medical information. We are a directory, not a nursing home, a health care provider or a placement agency, and we cannot help with anyone’s care. Don’t include diagnoses, treatment details or other health information about yourself, a resident or a family member in a message.

Information collected automatically

  • Standard request data. Like any website, our servers and our hosting and security providers receive your IP address, browser type, device type, the page you asked for and the page that referred you. We use this to run, secure and troubleshoot the site.
  • Abuse prevention. When you submit a form, we store a one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself) and your browser’s user agent, so we can limit spam and repeated submissions.
  • ZIP code searches. A ZIP code you enter on the “nursing homes near me” page is used to find nearby homes. It becomes part of the page address, so it can appear in our server logs and in our analytics like any page address. We don’t store it with anything that identifies you.
  • Your location. If you tap “Use my location” on the “nursing homes near me” page, your browser asks your permission and then shares your location. We round it to about half a mile before it leaves your browser and use it only to sort homes by distance. The rounded figures are part of the page address, so like a ZIP code search they can appear in our server logs and analytics. We don’t save your location to our database or link it to you.
  • Homes you compare. When you pick homes to compare, the list is remembered in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers. You can clear it by removing the homes or clearing your browser’s site data. If you share a comparison link, the homes in it are part of the link.
  • Cookies and similar technologies set by us and by the third-party services below.

How we use information

  • To run the site, show nursing home information and answer searches.
  • To reply to your messages and correct the data when you report a problem.
  • To respond to featured listing requests and to run the listings nursing homes pay for.
  • To show ads, which help pay for the site, and to measure how the site and our own advertising perform.
  • To keep the site secure and to prevent spam, fraud and automated abuse.
  • To comply with the law and enforce our Terms & Conditions.

We do not sell your name or email address, and we do not share them with advertisers or with the nursing homes listed on the site. We share information only with the service providers listed above, when the law requires it, to protect the site and its users, or as part of a sale or transfer of the site, in which case this policy would continue to apply to information collected under it.

Advertising and your choices

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners serve ads to you based on those visits.

Opting out does not remove ads. You will still see ads, but they won’t be based on your browsing.

Featured listings are different from ads: they are paid for by nursing homes, are always labeled, and use no cookies or information about you. See how we make money.

Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message from Google’s certified consent management platform asks for your choices before advertising cookies are used to personalize ads. You can change your choices at any time with the privacy settings link that appears on the site after you first respond.

We rely on your consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site for standard request data. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Information may be processed in the United States, where our service providers operate.

U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with consumer privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we have about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information as those laws define it.

We don’t sell personal information for money. Allowing Google, Meta and other ad partners to collect cookie and device data for personalized advertising may count as “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under some state laws. To opt out, use the choices in Advertising and your choices, block third-party cookies in your browser, or contact us. To exercise any other right, contact us and tell us what you would like us to do. We may need to confirm your email address before acting on a request, and we will not treat you differently for using these rights.

How long we keep information and how we protect it

  • Contact messages and issue reports are kept as long as needed to handle them and to keep a record of corrections made to the data.
  • Featured listing requests are kept while we discuss or run a listing, and afterwards as long as we need them for billing and business records.
  • The list of homes you compare stays in your browser until you clear it.
  • Server and security logs are kept for a limited period by us and our hosting and security providers.

The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS, and access to our database is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Children

This site is meant for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the services we use change. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed.
